Women's basketball matched up with No. 11 George Fox in first round NCAA action at WashU

GREENVILLE, Ill. -- The women's basketball team will head to the first and second rounds of the NCAA Division III tournament hosted by WashU in St. Louis, Mo.  The Panthers qualified for their second NCAA national tournament by winning the championship of the SLIAC tournament on Saturday. Greenville (23-4) has tied the school record established in 2016-17 for wins in a season, and they will play No. 11 George Fox (24-3) on Friday at 5 p.m. in Washington University Field House.

GU has now played in a season-ending national tournament for four straight seasons, qualifying for the NCAA national tournament in 2016 and 2019, winning the NCCAA national championship in 2017, and taking fourth place in the NCCAA nationals in 2018.  In 2016, the Panthers lost to WashU in the first round of the NCAA national tournament.

The winner of the first and second round games at WashU will face the winner of the Texas-Dallas first and second round games in the NCAA sectional.

This year, the Panthers played No. 19 WashU, falling 71-55 in December at H.J. Long Gymnasium.

The Panthers have collected four straight seasons of more than 20 wins, going 88-28 since the start of the 2015-16 season.

Senior Wesley Woodard leads Greenville in scoring with an average of 13.7 points per game.  In 2019, she became a member of Greenville 1000-point club and received her second selection to the SLIAC first team.

Senior Jantzen Michael, a SLIAC second team honoree, provides an average of 11.1 points per game.

Junior Morgan St. James, also a SLIAC second team recipient, tallied 11.1 points per game as well.  St. James was the MVP of the SLIAC tournament with 19 points, 8.5 rebounds, and five blocked shots per game in tournament action.

Panther head coach Roy Mulholland, in his 20th season at the helm, has a career record of 292-240 with two SLIAC regular season championships, two SLIAC tournament titles, an NCCAA national championship, two appearances in the NCAA national tournament, and five qualifications for the NCCAA national tournament.
