Women's basketball tops Eureka in opening conference game

EUREKA, Ill. - The women's basketball team used a 28 point second quarter to eliminate a first quarter deficit and received 24 points from Madelyn Stephen in their 81-77 win over Eureka on Wednesday.

Greenville trailed 17-14 after the first quarter but made 8-of-10 shots from the floor and 10-of-11 free throws in the second quarter to establish a 42-36 lead at halftime.

The teams both scored 20 points in the third period, and Eureka outscored GU 21-19 in the final quarter.

In addition to the 24 point outing from Stephen, Abigail Reinneck and Savana Powell-Goodman each provided 11 points, and Emily Reinneck posted 10 points.

Mia deJesus provided a spark with a team-high five rebounds, including three on the offensive glass.

A. Reinneck offered team leading marks with six assists and four steals.

The Panthers (8-4, 1-0 SLIAC) host Principia on Saturday at 1 p.m.
