Women's soccer tops Benedictine in opening match

GREENVILLE, Ill. -- The women's soccer team started their 2017 season with a 1-0 non-conference win over Benedictine on Friday.

The Panthers got their goal in the 57th minute when Kate Arthur slipped a bouncing ball past Benedictine's goalkeeper.

Hope Brakenhoff and Marjory Coated protected the nets for Greenville in picking up the shared shutout.  Brakenhoff played into the 73rd minute of the game before Coates took her place.  Brakenhoff collected four saves, and Coates had one.

Benedictine outshot Greenville by a 14-11 margin.  Breanna Thomas led Greenville with three shots.

The Panthers (1-0) head to Rose-Hulman for a game on Tuesday, September 5.
