Women's soccer nipped 2-1 by Millikin

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The women's soccer team challenged Millikin in a match that ended in a 2-1 defeat for the Panthers on Wednesday night in Greenville.

Millikin jumped ahead by a goal when they scored on a free kick in the fifth minute of the match and carried the 1-0 advantage to halftime.

Over the first half, Millikin outshot Greenville 11-5, but the Panthers reversed course in the second half, holding Millikin to four shots while taking 10 of their own.

The Big Blue made the score 2-0 with a goal in the 71st minute, but Jordan Wilson found the goal in the 82nd minute to cut the deficit in half. Breanna Thomas assisted on Wilson's goal.

The Panthers were led by Molly McDonnell, Wilson, Kate Arthur, and Ellie Cummins with three shots each. McDonnell put three shots on frame.

Reigning SLIAC defensive player of the week Marjory Coates served as GU's goalkeeper and produced six saves after facing eight shots on goal.

The Panthers (2-4-1) host Monmouth on Saturday in Greenville at 7 p.m.
