Women's tennis splits matches on opening day

ELSAH, Ill. -- The women's tennis team opened their 2018 season with Brett Brannon as their new head coach and split a pair of matches.  They fell to Lake Forest 7-2 before picking up a 9-0 win over Principia.

Greenville's wins against Lake Forest came by default as LFC only had a roster of five players.  Thus, Greenville took the win at No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles.

The match against Principia was the highlight of the day as the Panthers were perfect in their defeat of the SLIAC institution.

No. 4 Courtney Blaser took a 6-0, 6-0 win.

No. 2 Emma Wieland won 6-0, 6-2, and No. 4 Samantha Siefken earned a 6-0, 6-2 victory.

Other singles wins were achieved by No. 1 Bailey Pearce with an 11-9 tiebreaker, No. 4 Allison Fennewald, and No. 6 Christina Bowman.

The Panthers won all three doubles matches as well.  The No. 1 team of Pearce and Wieland won in a 7-4 tiebreaker.

The No. 2 team of Siefken and Blaser topped Principia 8-2, and the No. 3 duo of Fennewald and Bowman were 8-1 winners.

The Panthers (1-1) go to Hilton Head, S.C. for their spring break competition beginning on Monday, March 12.
