Women's tennis splits matches at SLIAC tourney

ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The women's tennis team extended their season-best winning streak to three matches with a win against Blackburn in the first round of the SLIAC tournament before being defeated by Westminster in the semifinals on Friday.

Winners in Greenville's match against Blackburn included all three flights of doubles.  The No. 2 doubles team of Samantha Siefken and Courtney Blaser held on for a 9-7 win.

No. 2 Emma Wieland and No. 6 Annie Bellinger did not drop a game with 6-0, 6-0 wins to close out the first round match.

In the second match of the day, Westminster snuck by Greenville in all three flights of doubles, and the match ended with wins at the No. 2 and No. 4 positions for the Blue Jays.

The Panthers (7-7) play Principia on Saturday at 11 a.m. in a match for the SLIAC third place trophy.  A win would give them their first winning season since the 2013 squad was 9-8.
