Women's track and field earns sixth place at Illinois College

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. -- The women's track and field team competed Illinois College on Saturday, and they finished sixth of the 13 teams at the event.  The Lady Panther team featured winners in three events in their first meet since December.

Participants taking first place included Sierah Ruffner, high jump; and Chelsea Gilles with wins in teh 200 meter dash and 400 meter dash.

Ruffner tied for first with two other entrants as they cleared a height of 1.65 meters (5 feet, 5 inches).

Gilles' time in the 200 meter dash outpaced her closest competitor by 24 hundredths of a second as she crossed the finish line in 26.29 seconds.

Gilles gained a victory by over two seconds in the 400 meter dash as she was the only person to obtain a sub-one minute race with a time of 58.03 seconds.

The Panthers travel to Principia for the Principia Relays on Friday and Saturday.
