Women's volleyball splits opening matches

ELMHURST, Ill. -- The women's volleyball team began their 2016 campaign by winning one of two matches at Elmhurst.  The Lady Panthers were defeated in three games by 2015 NCAA national tournament qualifier Wisconsin - La Crosse before sweeping three games from North Park.

Greenville was overtaken 25-14, 25-13, 25-17 in the opener.  Allyson Mitchell produced six kills to pace Greenville's offense.

Setter Kirsten Laune gave G.C. 18 assists in the match.

Janisha Pealer produced nine digs as she led Greenville's defense.

As much as the first match went in favor of La Crosse, the night's second match was controlled by Greenville.

The Lady Panthers rolled to a 27-25, 25-15, 25-17 win.

Savannah Sells had a huge match with 13 kills and six block assists to provide 16 points.

Mitchell and Laune handled North Park's attack as Mitchell provided 13 digs and Laune had 11.

Laune also totaled 26 assists.

The Lady Panthers (1-1) return to action Saturday with matches against Benedictine (IL) and New Paltz St.
