Women's volleyball captures two more wins

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. -- The women's volleyball team improved their undefeated season start with a pair of four-set wins over Culver-Stockton and Knox on Saturday.  Greenville topped Culver-Stockton 21-25, 25-23, 25-22, 25-11, and then won 25-22, 25-11, 26-28, 25-18 against Knox.

Allyson Mitchell posted 11 kills in the match against Culver-Stockton.  Greenville outhit Culver-Stockton .141 to .053.

Whitney Nichols was a dominating defensive presence as she racked up 21 digs.

Anna Finch was solid at the net with four block assists.

Alex Falcone added 24 assists to direct Greenville's offensive attack.

In the second match, Greenville held a two set lead before dropping the third set and fighting back for a four-set win.

Mitchell led a trio of Panthers with 12 or more kills.  Mitchell paced Greenville with 15 kills, and Finch and Sarah Watts added 12 kills.

Abby Quirin and Falcone set up Greenville's attack as Quirin ended with 27 assists and Falcone had 25 assists.

Nichols again led the team in digs with 12.  Mitchell and Madison Clayton posted 10 digs.

The Panthers (4-0) host Eureka on Wednesday, Sept. 6, in a match that will be played at Greenville Junior High School at 7 p.m. due to construction on campus in H.J. Long Gymnasium.
