Baseball defeats Blackburn in a pair on Saturday

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The baseball team recorded a doubleheader sweep over Blackburn on Saturday, earning 6-4 and 7-4 wins.

Adam Lamb was Greenville's starting pitcher for game one and allowed a second inning run before settling down over the next three innings.  He was relieved in the top of the sixth with runners on base and four runs on the scoreboard, but Hunter Cullum snuffed out the rally.  Lamb improved to 3-2 on the season after going 5.2 innings and allowing nine hits.  He struck out six and walked two.

Cullum ended the sixth inning with a strikeout after starting his appearance by hitting the first batter.

Klaiton Wolff closed the game with a scoreless inning after giving up two hits for his sixth save.

The Panthers opened their scoring with a run in the bottom of the second when Tucker Rappe singled and a run scored on an error.

Greenville scored five in the bottom of the third to take a 6-1 lead.

Wolff had an RBI single, Rappe hit a three-run double, and Clarence Falls provided an RBI single in the third.

Ryan Taylor and Rappe both ended game one with two hits, and Sam Hodges scored twice.

In game two, the Panthers picked up a run in the first inning, three in the second, and two in the third to establish a 6-0 lead.

Wolff tallied a first inning RBI single.

Falls helped GU with a second inning RBI single, and Austin Lawrence gave Greenville a bunt RBI single.  The final run scored on a groundout by Ryan Taylor.

In the third inning, Andrew Torbeck added an RBI single, and the sixth run crossed the plate on a Mark Islas RBI single.

After allowing two runs in the top of the sixth to make it a 6-2 game, Greenville got a run in the bottom of the inning with a Falls RBI single.

Sam Alender started on the mound for Greenville and worked 5.1 innings, yielding two runs on four hits while walking five and striking out five. He upped his record to 2-1 with the win.

Cullum entered in relief of Alender and finished the sixth and seventh innings, allowing a run in the seventh and giving up four hits.  Cole Becker provided a scoreless eighth inning, and Austin Rexroad wrapped up the game with one run allowed in the ninth inning. 

Islas and Falls both finished with two hits, and Falls had two RBI.

The Panthers (13-7, 5-0 SLIAC) will return to action next Saturday against Fontbonne in a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
