Cheer receives awards at USA Collegiate Game Day Championships

On Thursday, February 21, 2019, Greenville University Panther Cheerleading Program embarked on a new journey. The coed team of 10 girls, 3 guys and Hoguey D. Panther made their way to the west coast to compete in the USA Collegiate Game Day Championships held in Anaheim, CA., for the first time in program history.

After a day of travel the team enjoyed time in the Disneyland® Parks for the majority of the day Friday and Saturday afternoon.

Saturday evening the team made their way to the Anaheim Convention Center to compete in the Collegiate Game Day Championships in two divisions: Band Chant and Fight Song.

The Band Chant Division was up first. The team had to work through some scheduling issues but hit the mat with an amazing performance.

After a quick rest and uniform change, the team was back at on the floor with its Traditional Fight Song performance. This routine was not their best, but still a great showing.

Before awards the team was able to sit in the arena and view a few of the other competitors all while receiving rave reviews from spectators, competitors and even the Event Staff!

After awards, Panther Cheer came away with a 2nd place finish in the Band Chant Division (only one point away from the 1st place team) and a 2nd place finish in the Fight Song Division. Everyone could not be more proud of this team in their first time competing with the new organization.

Previously, Panther Cheer had attended CCA Christian Cheer Nationals & Collegiate Championship in Fayetteville, NC., and are title holders in: the Small Coed Collegiate Division. College Mascot Division, and Collegiate Grand Champions.

It was an amazing weekend for fun, fellowship and great competition, and they are already looking forward to next year! Also, keep an eye out for Panther Dance as the compete next month in the Power Dance Midwest Championships.
