GREENVILLE, Ill. - The football team had the undefeated UMAC leader MacMurray on the ropes on Saturday, but they fell short with a 27-20 loss.

The Panthers jumped ahead with a touchdown on its first possession when Gregoire Franchomme caught a two yard pass from Dalton Mitchell.

GU extended their lead to 12-0 after Gavin Jordan scored on a 95-yard interception return with 13:41 remaining in the first half.

By the time the second quarter ended, MacMurray managed to take a 13-12 lead after scoring two touchdowns.

In the third quarter, MacMurray added a touchdown and PAT for a 20-12 advantage.

After several series with no scoring, the Panthers received their final touchdown of the game when a handoff went to Franchomme and he connected with Eric Kranh for a 4-yard touchdown pass.  Franchomme caught the two-point conversion from Mitchell to tie the game at 20-all with 6:13 to play.

With just over three minutes to play, MacMurray found the end zone for a 27-20 lead.  Greenville's final possession stalled at the M24 when time expired.

Mitchell completed 27-of-42 passes for 237 yards and a touchdown.

Courtney Mitchell ran the ball 22 times for 86 yards, and Kranh had nine receptions for 82 yards.

Jordan was the defensive leader with 14 tackles and the interception return for the touchdown.  Herman Esquivel added 11 tackles.

Zackery Silvas had 1 1/2 sacks, combining with Anthony Esquivel on a QB sack.  The Panthers also recovered two fumbles.

The Panthers (2-6, 2-4 UMAC) head to Iowa Wesleyan for a game on Saturday, Nov. 3.
