GREENVILLE, Ill. - The football team recorded a 36-0 win over Westminster on Saturday, marking their first shutout in over 11 years.

The Panthers' most recent shutout came against Principia on Sept. 27, 2008, when Greenville won 59-0.

Greenville set the tone early with a touchdown on the game's first play from the line of scrimmage. Quarterback George Harris found a wide open Kyler Henson across the middle for a 65 yard touchdown pass, and Moritz Riedinger converted the extra point in his debut as placekicker to give GU a 7-0 lead.

Before the end of the first quarter, Paul Garrett completed a 23 yard touchdown run with 3:03 to play, and Riedinger made another PAT to establish a 14-0 lead.

Both teams were held scoreless in the second quarter.

With 7:20 remaining in the third quarter, Greenville posted a safety when Jaden Steele blocked a punt in the Westminster endzone and forced the ball to roll out of the back of the endzone for two points.

The Panthers extended their lead to 23-0 when Harris connected with Eric Kranh on a 30 yard touchdown pass with 5:54 left in the third quarter, and Riedinger's extra point attempt was successful.

Before the end of the third quarter, Garrett broke loose for a 39 yard touchdown run, and Riedinger made another PAT for a 30-0 lead.

In the fourth quarter, quarterback Dalton Mitchell found Isaih Ibarra open for a three yard touchdown pass with 12:23 left in the game, and Westminster blocked the extra point attempt by Riedinger.

Overall, Greenville outgained Westminster by nearly 400 yards, holding a 492-98 advantage. The Panthers produced 259 passing and 233 rushing yards.

Harris went 10-of-21 for 199 yards and two touchdowns.

Garrett recorded triple digit rushing yards for the third straight game with 19 carries for 117 yards and two touchdowns.

Henson caught seven passes for 156 yards, surpassing his previous high total yardage by nearly 60 yards.

Greenville's defensive unit recorded three quarterback sacks, nine tackles behind the line of scrimmage, a fumble recovery, an interception, and a blocked punt.

Lakari Benjamin and Gavin Jordan each had six tackles for Greenville.

Benjamin and Anthony Esquivel had solo quarterback sacks, and Herman Esquivel joined Turjon McLaurin for a sack.

Javion Smith posted Greenville's interception, and Abias Lowe had GU's fumble recovery.

The Panthers (3-2, 2-1 UMAC) are scheduled for a bye week next Saturday, and they return to the field on Saturday, Oct. 19, against St. Scholastica in GU's Homecoming football game.
