Jausel and Phillips Qualify for FLW National Championship

DRAFFENVILLE, Ky. – The Greenville University Bass Fishing team will be sending a team to the 2020 FLW National Championship. Cale Jausel and Jordan Phillips placed 20th of 194 teams at the FLW College Fishing Open to qualify for the championships.

Recently, the team competed in the FLW College Fishing Open held on Kentucky Lake. The event spanned two days, and the top 20 teams from the event qualified for the National Championship which will be held the following summer.

Heavy rains and major flooding prior to the event had both anglers and officials concerned about the event being held. Thankfully, water levels were dropping fast and conditions were deemed safe enough to hold the event.

The team of Cale Jausel and Jordan Phillips started the event off strong with a day one bag of 21 pounds and 7 ounces. Their five fish limit was anchored by a kicker that the team estimated to be 7 pounds or better. Their weight landed them in 13th place after day one had concluded.

Knowing that the top 20 qualified for nationals, the team knew they needed to repeat their catch on day two. With high winds predicted for the afternoon of day two, the tournament director announced the possibility of a shortened or even cancelled day two, a decision that would be made in the morning.

On the morning of day two, a shortened day was announced. Rather than weigh in starting at 3:00, it was moved up to 12:00. Jausel and Phillips struggled some on the second day and only managed one keeper. It weighed 5 pounds 13 ounces, which was just enough to secure them 20th place out of a field of 194 teams.
