Record-setting night sees men's basketball succumb to Fontbonne

GREENVILLE, Ill. -- The men's basketball team combined with Fontbonne for an NCAA Division III record of 318 points in a single game, but it was Greenville that ended up on the short end as Fontbonne grabbed a 164-154 overtime win in Greenville on Wednesday.

Riley Simmons and Johari Dix were top scorers for Greenville with 20 points a piece.  Seven other Panthers hit double-figure scoring efforts.

Isaih Price posted an 18 point evening, and Vari Bonney had 15 points.

Josias Parker tallied a team-high 10 assists in the game.

Dix was tops in the steals category with six, and he also added eight assists.

Fontbonne led 78-62 at halftime as Greenville shot just 35 percent in the first half, compared to Fontbonne's mark over 70 percent.

The Panthers trailed by as many as 22 points before charging back, and the score was tied at 144-all going to the overtime period.

The two teams also set a new NCAA Division III mark for total rebounds, amassing 125 total rebounds; breaking a record originally set in 1977.

Fontbonne outrebounded GU 77-49.

The Panthers (12-8, 9-4 SLIAC) still hold a one-game lead in the conference standings, and they play at MacMurray on Saturday at 3 p.m.
