Men's soccer gains 4-1 win over Rockford

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The men's soccer team captured a 4-1 win over Rockford in their first official match of the season on Saturday after Friday's match against Millikin was considered a no contest.  As a result of the matches over the weekend, Greenville ended as the champion of the Panther Invitational.

Greenville took a 2-0 lead in the match after Jared McPeek's goal in the sixth minute and Matt White's goal in the 16th minute.

Rockford cut Greenville's lead in half by scoring in the 33rd minute, but Cam Whitehead answered with a goal just over three and a half minutes later to give GU a 3-1 advantage going into halftime.

Napoleon Urquidi added an insurance goal in the 83rd minute on a penalty kick.

Greenville outshot Rockford 14-8.  McPeek led the team with four shots, including three shots on goals

Goalkeeper Nick Holland worked all 90 minutes in front of the net for Greenville and collected four saves.
