Men's volleyball perfect on opening day of NCCAA national invitational

PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. - The men's volleyball team earned a pair of victories in the opening day of pool play at the NCCAA national invitational at Trinity Christian.  The Panthers defeated Judson in four sets, followed by a three-set win over Brewton-Parker.

The Panthers hit well in the match against Judson as they piled up a hitting rate of .341.  In the final set, Greenville converted 11 kills in 14 attacks to finish at .741 and win the contest.  GU won with set scores of 26-24, 25-21, 23-25, 25-23.

The Panthers were led by Johnny Milabu's 12 kills, two solo blocks, and one block assist as he compiled 14 1/2 points.

Isaiah Canales and his play at the net produced two solo blocks and four block assists.

Tanner Smith helped Greenville as setter, compiling 35 assists.  He also had two service aces and led GU with 10 digs.

In the evening match, Greenville rolled to a 25-18, 25-15, 25-15 win against Brewton-Parker.

Nick Corrigan had a dominating effort with 15 kills and two errors in 21 attacks and hit .619.  He also had a team high six digs.

The Panthers ended the match with a hitting percentage of .439 with 37 kills, six errors, and 66 attacks.

Smith provided Greenville with another 30 set assist match and had two service aces.

The Panthers (3-2) will play Ottawa (Ariz.) at 9 a.m. on Saturday morning.  They will play for the championship of the tournament with a win over Ottawa and will be in the third place match if they lose.
