NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The softball team ran their winning streak to three with a pair of wins on Tuesday in South Carolina. Greenville pulverized Morrisville State 18-0 in five innings in their morning game before needing extra innings to dispatch Medaille 4-3 in eight innings.
Greenville received a one hit pitching effort from Cayla Speaks and Kendall Farr as their bats took over and dropped 18 runs on Morrisville. Speaks worked four innings in the circle with two strikeouts before yielding way to Farr for a perfect inning that included a strikeout.
The Panthers showed that they brought their bats in the first innings as they had a 6-0 lead before Morrisville State even stepped in the batter's box.
In Greenville's first inning, the women scored four runs on three Morrisville errors, sandwiched around an RBI single by Speaks and another run that scored on a passed ball.
Another run scored via an error before Beth Mersinger walked with the bases loaded to give Greenville a 10-0 lead.
In the fourth inning, Farr provided an RBI double.
Speaks went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with three runs and three RBI.
In game two, Greenville took a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Kayla Zimmerman had an RBI double and Deidre Holzhauer delivered an RBI groundout.
The score stayed 2-0 in the Panthers favor until the third inning when Medaille scored a run.
Mersinger gave the women an RBI double in the sixth inning to make it a 3-1 game, but Medaille forced extra innings with two runs in the bottom of the seventh.
Atteberry provided the game-winning RBI in the top of the eighth on a single that scored Holzhauer.
Stone pitched seven innings, falling just short of the complete game. She allowed three runs, one earned, on 11 hits, but she still picked up the win. Farr recorded the save with a perfect eighth inning.
The Panthers (3-1) play Fitchburg State and Lancaster Bible on Thursday as their trip continues.
