EUREKA, Ill. - The softball team split a doubleheader with Eureka on Saturday. Greenville lost game one 8-7 in eight innings after allowing the Red Devils to rally from a four run seventh inning deficit to force extra innings, but Greenville bounced back to win game two 6-4 with two runs in the top of the seventh.

The Panthers took an early 2-0 lead after Deidra Holzhauer's RBI double and Cayla Speaks RBI single in the first inning.

Eureka tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the second, and GU regained the lead in the top of the fourth with an RBI groundout from Amanda Atteberry.

Holzhauer provided a sacrifice fly in the top of the fifth.

In the bottom of the fifth, Eureka made it a 4-3 game, but Greenville's Kendall Farr launched a home run and Olivia Shipman added an RBI single to push their lead to 6-3.

Beth Mersinger added a solo homer in the top of the seventh.

Eureka's four runs in the bottom of the seventh tied the game, and Eureka won it with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth.

Mersinger, Farr, and Speaks all ended game one with two hits.

Caitie Opp started in the circle and went 6.1 innings, allowing six runs on 10 hits.

Speaks came into the game for the save but could not complete it. She ended with 1.1 innings and two runs, one earned, on one hit as her record fell to 3-2.

Game two ended in Greenville's favor, but they had to recover from a fifth inning deficit to win the game.

The Panthers scored a run in the opening inning when Holzhauer had an RBI double, but the Red Devils matched them with a run.

The game remained 1-1 until the top of the fifth when Mersinger connected for a two-run home run, but Eureka took the lead with three runs in the bottom of the fifth.

In the sixth inning, Maegan Stone tied the game with an RBI single, and Mersinger knocked her second home run of the game and third of the day in the seventh to give Greenville their two run margin of victory.

Stone went the distance in the circle, completing all seven innings with two earned runs on six hits. Her record improved to 5-0.

Kayla Zimmerman and Holzhauer each ended with four hits, and Atteberry had three hits.

The Panthers (13-5, 7-1 SLIAC) host MacMurray at 3 p.m. on Monday in a doubleheader.
