Women's basketball knocks off defending SLIAC champs on road

EUREKA, Ill. -- The women's basketball team earned a critical road victory as they defeated the defending SLIAC regular season and tournament champion Eureka by an 85-80 score in a come-from-behind effort on Wednesday.

The Panthers recovered from a deficit that reached 14 points in the second quarter for the win.

Greenville trailed 25-16 after the first quarter and 49-37 at halftime.

The Panthers came back and tied the game at 58-all in the third quarter, but Eureka managed to take a 66-63 lead by the end of the period.

The fourth quarter saw Greenville grab their first lead since early in the first quarter when Brittany Lopez knocked down a three pointer to give them a 77-74 advantage with 3:52 remaining in the game.  The women held the advantage until the final buzzer.

Meredith Crosier posted team-highs with 20 points and eight rebounds.

Maria Reinhard added 18 points, six assists, and five steals.

Morgan St. James matched Crosier's rebounding total with eight caroms.

The Panthers (4-1, 1-0 SLIAC) host Westminster on Saturday at 1 p.m. in H.J. Long Gymnasium.
