Women's tennis heads to SLIAC championship match

ELSAH, Ill. - The women's tennis team advanced to the championship match of the SLIAC tournament with a 5-2 win over Westminster in the semifinals on Friday at Principia's indoor courts.

The Panthers swept all three doubles matches, slipping by Westminster 8-7 in number one doubles, taking an 8-5 win in number two doubles, and winning number three doubles 8-6.

No. 3 Claudia Principal and No. 4 Courtney Blaser won their singles matches in straight sets to give GU the requisite number of five wins to complete the match and move forward to the final.

Principal and Blaser also comprised Greenville's number one doubles team, helping them total three of Greenville's five wins in the match.

Emma Wieland and Bailey Pearce won at number one doubles, and Maddi Walsh and Annie Bellinger were victorious in number three doubles.

The Panthers (12-5) face Principia in St. Louis on Saturday for the tournament championship at 11 a.m.
