Cunningham earns second place in hammer throw for women's track and field at WashU

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The women's track and field team opened their outdoor season at the WashU mini meet on Saturday.  Deborah Cunningham recorded Greenville's high placement with a second place mark in the hammer throw.

Cunningham reached a distance of 44.10 meters in posting the runner-up effort.  She ended about a meter short of the winning throw.

Cayden Sharp was third in the high jump with a clearance of 1.50 meters, and she tied for the position.

Victoria Papez provided GU with a fifth place finish in the hammer throw with a distance of 38.24 meters.

Savannah Maloney was seventh in the shot put as she reached 10.35 meters, and she also placed seventh in the javelin at 28.50 meters.

Carly Abbott continued Greenville's strong performance in the hammer throw with a 36.88 meter throw for seventh place.  Overall, Greenville student-athletes occupied three of the eight point-scoring positions in the hammer throw.

The Panthers will head back to WashU for a meet on Friday and Saturday.
