Women's cross country wins 16th SLIAC championship

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The women's cross country team earned the SLIAC championship for the 16th time in school history and the second time in the last three years on Saturday at E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park.

Greenville's Brooke Gooodyear pulled ahead of teammate Lisa Kruse on the final stretch to take second place with a time of 23:20 on the six kilometer race.  Kruse completed the race in 23:40.  Jordie File was sixth (24:39) and Sheridan Noll eighth (24:56).

The Lady Panthers finished with 31 team points.

Megan McKee, Shirley Estes, and Brianna Cox took the 12th through 14th positions.

In addition to the conference championship, the women's team received the SLIAC Team Sportsmanship award.

Greenville's first team all-conference honors went to Goodyear, Kruse, and File.

The second team all-conference recipients were Noll, McKee, Estes, and Cox.

The women had a total of seven all-conference runners, improving on last year's total of two.

Brian Patton captured coach of the year honors for the 11th time.  He was also part of the staff receiving coach of the year honors on two occasions.

The women will compete in their Panther Trials intrasquad on Friday, Nov. 4, as they prepare for the NCAA midwest regional on Nov. 12.
