Baseball downed at Millikin

DECATUR, Ill. - The baseball team fell behind in the opening inning and saw Millikin continue to score in every inning thereafter in a 16-3 loss to the Big Blue on Wednesday night.

Greenville allowed a first inning run, seven in the second, and one in the third as the Panthers faced a 9-0 deficit after three innings.

The Panthers made the score 9-3 in the top of the fourth, collecting an RBI infield single from Landon Mokris after Drew Frey doubled and George Schneider was hit by a pitch.

Schneider later scored on a wild pitch, and Mokris crossed the plate after Mark Islas's run-scoring single to right field.

Millikin recovered the nine run lead with two runs in the bottom of the fourth and one in the fifth before adding four runs in the sixth that gave them the ability to shorten the game by the ten-run rule.

Lucas Teel started on the mound for GU and worked into the second inning, allowing eight runs on seven hits, three walks, and two hit batters.

Terry Millikan relieved Teel with 2.2 innings on the bump, and he permitted four runs on five hits and two walks. Austin Long pitched in the fifth and sixth innings, providing 1.2 innings of work and permitting four runs, three earned, on two hits and two walks.

Craig Oertel closed the game for GU with one-third of an inning.

In addition to the hits recorded by Frey, Mokris, and Islas, Thomas Dowell added a pinch hit single.

The Panthers (2-4) travel to Columbus, Miss., for a three game series that begins Friday at MUW.
