Baseball splits doubleheader with Fredonia

DAVENPORT, Fla. - The baseball team received a 4-3 extra innings win in game one against Fredonia before suffering a 6-0 blanking in game two.

Greenville established a 2-0 first inning lead in game one and added a third run in the second inning.

Fredonia rallied in the top of the seventh to tie the game a 3-3, but Trent Morgenstern produced an RBI single in the eighth inning to provide the Panthers with a win.

Braden Maltbie had an outstanding performance on the mound, nearly pitching the complete game.  He was relieved in the top of the seventh after pitching 6.2 innings and allowing three runs, two earned, on five hits.

Lucas Teel worked out of a jam in the seventh and was awarded the win after finishing the game on the mound.

The Panthers built the lead with an RBI groundout by Blake Duncan and an RBI single from Mark Islas in the first.  Later Tanner Gerdes added an RBI triple.

In game two, the Panthers allowed six runs and only generated two hits, one each by Morgenstern and Dustin Sutton.

Jaxen Gibson drew the start on the mound and went 3.1 innings, giving up four earned runs.  Luke Fleener gave up two runs in 1.2 innings, and Craig Oertel pitched a scoreless frame.

The Panthers (4-7) return to action on Tuesday against Wisconsin-Superior at Auburndale, Fla.
