Baseball posts nine runs over the final three innings for second Florida win

AUBURNDALE, Fla. - The baseball team received nine runs over the final three innings in an 11-3 victory against Wisconsin-Superior on Tuesday at Lake Myrtle Park.

The Panthers jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning. Drew Frey walked and stole second before Landon Mokris worked a two out walk. Logan Garrick provided a run-scoring single up the middle to plate Frey, and Mokris later scored on a throwing error by the shortstop during Dustin Sutton's at bat.

In the bottom of the fourth, UWS scored twice and added a run in the sixth inning to go ahead 3-2.

GU tied the game in the top of the seventh when Blake Duncan lined a basehit off the pitcher's leg, and the Panthers went ahead 4-3 in the top of the eighth on an RBI groundout by Garrett Schmitz.

Greenville exploded for seven runs in the top of the ninth after receiving bases-loaded walks of Garrick, Sutton, and Tanner Gerdes. Schmitz cleared the bases with a three-run triple, and Trent Morgenstern plated a run with an RBI double.

Morgenstern went 3-for-6 with a run scored and RBI to lead the Panthers in hits. Garrick went 2-for-2 with three walks, a run scored, and two RBI.

Schmitz finished the game with four RBI.

Dylan Boehm picked up the pitching win with two innings of relief. He gave up one run on one hit and one walk with three strikeouts to improve to 2-0.

Trent Harris picked up his second save of the season with two scoreless innings and three strikeouts.

The Panthers (5-7) return to action on Thursday in a doubleheader against SUNY Poly.
