GREENVILLE, Ill. - The baseball team captured a 14-1 seven inning victory over Eureka on Monday night at Robert E. Smith Field, receiving a complete game win from Luke Fleener and a five-hit performance from Drew Frey.
The Panthers scored in every inning but one as they built a commanding lead. The Panthers fell behind 1-0 in the first inning, but Greenville tied it up in the bottom of the first with a sacrifice fly from Landon Mokris that allowed Frey to score his first of four runs in the game.
In the bottom of the second, Greenville added six runs, receiving a two-run single from Frey, a two-run double from Mokris, and another two runs when Eureka misplayed a fielder's choice.
Mokris added another RBI single in the fifth, and Greenville scored on an RBI groundout to make the score 10-1.
In the sixth inning, GU added four more runs. Zach Ury provided an RBI single and later scored on a wild pitch. Garrett Schmitz posted an RBI single, and Logan Garrick had a run-scoring double.
Fleener held Eureka to only three hits in the game and struck out seven.
Mark Islas and Schmitz ended with a 3-for-4 hitting performance, and Schmitz scored three runs.
Frey and Schmitz were a force at the top of the lineup, going a combined 8-for-9 with seven runs scored between them.
The Panthers (9-10, 1-2 SLIAC) travel to Indianapolis for a game on Wednesday night at Victory Field against Anderson.
