Baseball drops 15-5 decision to Anderson at Victory Field in Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The baseball team received an opportunity to play Anderson at Victory Field, the home of the Pittsburgh Pirates AAA affiliate Indianapolis Indians, and were set back 15-5 on Wednesday night.

The Panthers led briefly in the contest, taking a 2-1 lead in the second inning on an RBI single from Mark Islas and a run-scoring fielder's choice off the bat of Tanner Gerdes.

However, their lead was short-lived as the Ravens posted five runs in the bottom of the second to take a 6-2 advantage.

The Panthers cut the deficit to 6-3 with a run in the top of the fourth inning, but Anderson tacked on four runs in the bottom of the fourth to go up 10-3.

With two runs in the top of the fifth, GU got as close as 10-5, but Anderson added five more runs over the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings to end the game early with a 10-run lead.

Greenville's offense was led by Landon Mokris and Trent Morgenstern who each went 2-for-4 in the game with a double and a run scored. Mokris added an RBI. Gerdes tripled and also drove in two runs.

On the mound, Lucas Teel received the pitching loss, working two innings and allowing six runs, five earned, on eight hits with two strikeouts.

Jaxen Gibson gave up three runs, one earned in 1.1 innings, and Terry Millikan permitted three runs, one earned, over 2.2 innings.

Trent Harris finished the game on the mound for Greenville with 1.1 innings, giving up three runs on four hits.

The Panthers (9-11) continue their season on Friday with a SLIAC game against Blackburn in Greenville at Robert E. Smith Field. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
