Baseball secures series win over Westminster

FULTON, Mo. - The baseball team won the rubber game of a three-game series with Westminster on Saturday and brought themselves up into the fourth place position in the SLIAC standings with a 5-4 win on Saturday afternoon.

The Panthers got on the scoreboard quickly and never trailed despite the Blue Jays making it a one-run game.

Greenville led 1-0 after one inning and 2-0 after three. In the fifth inning, both teams scored a pair of runs, bringing the score to 4-2. The Panthers extended their lead to 5-2 with a run in the sixth, and Westminster scored a single run in the seventh and eighth innings.

Trent Morgenstern and Mark Islas recorded multi-hit games for the Panthers with each totaling two hits. Islas drove in one run in the first inning and had two RBI on a single in the fifth.

Luke Fleener drew the start and worked into the fifth inning, giving up two runs, zero earned, on eight hits over 4.1 innings. Ian Wilson entered the game and walked a batter before Trent Harris came on and finished the game with 4.2 innings in picking up the win.

The Panthers (15-14, 7-5 SLIAC) will host Millikin on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Robert E. Smith Field.
