Baseball drops senior day doubleheader against Spalding

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The baseball team recognized graduating seniors Austin Lawrence, Caleb Sedmak, Dustin Sutton, Mark Islas, Seth Burnham, and manager Zach Levy between games of a doubleheader against Spalding on Saturday. The Golden Eagles prevailed in both contests, winning 14-1 and 15-4.

In game one, the Panthers did not score until the seventh inning and a five run seventh inning from Spalding provided the Golden Eagles with the double digit lead they needed to complete game one in seven innings.

Drew Frey, Landon Mokris, Blake Duncan, Rhett Pennington, and Dustin Sutton each recorded a hit for Greenville.

Sutton's RBI single in the bottom of the seventh served as the spoiler for Spalding starting pitcher Wesley Clark's complete game shutout.

Jaxen Gibson recorded the loss on the mound. He pitched four innings, allowing five runs on eight hits. Four of the hits left the ballpark as home runs.

Ian Wilson worked 2.2 innings, giving up nine runs, seven earned, on nine hits, and Burnham retired the only batter he faced.

In game two, Spalding took a narrow 5-4 lead and hit up Greenville for 10 runs in the sixth inning to get the cushion they needed to have the game shortened.

Greenville's Lawrence went 2-for-4 in the game with a run scored and RBI.

Mokris drove in two runs, scored one, and provided one hit.

Pennington and Sedmak also reached base safely on hits.

Luke Fleener dropped the pitching decision to fall to 4-3. He allowed six runs, five earned, on eight hits and two walks.

Dylan Boehm was touched for four runs on two hits and two walks over one-third of an inning, and reliever Trent Harris allowed five runs on three hits and three walks.

Terry Millikan escaped the sixth inning jam and pitched a scoreless seventh inning.
