Baseball drops game one of Webster series

SAUGET, Ill. - The baseball team opened their series against first place Webster with an 11-5 loss on Friday afternoon.

Greenville fell behind 1-0 in the first inning, but the Panthers took the lead in the top of the second with a four run frame. During Greenville's four run inning, Dustin Sutton, Drew Frey, Trent Morgenstern, and Landon Mokris all supplied RBI singles.

Webster hit its first two home runs in the bottom of the second, a solo shot and a two-run bomb, to tie the game at 4-4.

In the bottom of the third, Webster launched a grand slam.

Sutton worked a bases loaded walk in the top of the fifth to make the score 8-5, but Webster eventually scored three unanswered runs in the bottom of the inning.

Jaxen Gibson started the game and allowed eight runs on seven hits over three innings. Terry Millikan provided 1.2 innings of relief, allowing three runs, two earned.

Craig Oertel worked 2.1 scoreless innings, and Seth Burnham provided a scoreless eighth inning on the mound.

Mokris hit safely in two of four at bats to record Greenville's only multiple hit outing.

The Panthers (15-20, 7-9 SLIAC) travel back to GCS Ballpark in Sauget for a Saturday doubleheader against Webster.
