Baseball solidifies fourth seed in SLIAC tournament with sweep over Principia

ELSAH, Ill. - The baseball team clinched fourth place in the SLIAC standings with a 13-1 and 13-2 doubleheader sweep of Principia on Saturday.

Greenville posted three runs in the first inning of game one, setting the tone early, and added four runs in the second to race out to a 7-0 lead.

Luke Fleener only permitted two hits with three strikeouts through four innings to receive the win.

Landon Mokris homered for Greenville, a two-run shot in the first inning.

Drew Frey went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and three RBI.

Mark Islas, Rhett Pennington, and Dustin Sutton also had multi-hit games.

Jaxen Gibson, Terry Millikan, and Braden Maltbie each provided one inning of relief.

In game two, Greenville scored first, but Principia posted a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning to briefly hold their only lead of the day.

In the top of the second and third innings, Greenville scored four runs each inning, and they had two run innings in the fourth and sixth innings.

Mokris went 3-for-3 with one run scored and four RBI.

Blake Duncan had a 2-for-5 afternoon in the batter's box with three RBI, and Tanner Gerdes was 2-for-3 with three runs scored.

Zack McClease also provided three RBI.

Trent Harris was the winning pitcher with four innings in the start. He only allowed two runs on two hits and two walks with seven strikeouts.

Lucas Teel, Ian Wilson, and Dylan Boehm each delivered a scoreless inning of relief.

The Panthers (17-22) will host Westminster on Tuesday in the SLIAC tournament at Robert E. Smith Field.
