Baseball relinquishes five-run lead in 11-6 loss to Webster in SLIAC tournament

O'FALLON, Mo. - The right arm of Trent Harris held the Webster Gorloks at bay for six innings, but eventually Webster broke through scoring seven runs in the seventh inning and four runs in the eighth inning in taking an 11-6 win over Greenville in the SLIAC tournament on Thursday.

The Panthers opened the scoring in the fourth inning, pushing across four runs to go ahead 4-0. During the GU scoring spree, Mark Islas delivered an RBI single, Rhett Pennington produced a fielder's choice that scored a run, and Austin Lawrence gave GU a two-run triple.

In the fifth inning, Blake Duncan scored on an RBI single from Tanner Gerdes.

The Gorloks bounced Harris in the seventh inning after two runners reached base. Dylan Boehm took the mound in relief and retired one batter, being charged for five runs, all unearned, and the loss.

Braden Maltbie got the Panthers out of the seventh inning, but the damage was done.

Lucas Teel pitched in the eighth inning, allowing four runs, one earned, on three hits.

Connor Ott closed the game with two-thirds of an inning.

Duncan, Gerdes, and Dustin Sutton all had two hits in the game for Greenville. Duncan and Sutton each scored two runs.

Harris pitched six innings, holding Webster to two runs, one earned, on four hits and three walks while retiring six on strikes.

The Panthers (18-23) will play Fontbonne in an elimination game on Friday at Noon.
