Baseball falls in two at Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The baseball team completed their season-opening trip to Rhodes with an 8-2 loss to Augustana in game one followed by a 14-4 loss to Rhodes in game two.

Game one remained scoreless through two and a half innings before Augustana took a 1-0 lead in the third, led 7-0 after four, and held an 8-0 advantage after five. The Panthers posted single runs in the top of the seventh and eighth innings.

Snyder Pennington went 4-for-5 with one RBI, and Trent Morgenstern batted 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Braden Maltbie allowed six runs, five earned over 3.2 innings for the loss.

Against the Lynx, Greenville fell behind 2-0 after one, 3-0 after two, and 6-0 after four before scoring three runs in the top of the fifth.

Rhodes added three in the bottom of the fifth, and the Panthers tallied a run in the top of the six before Rhodes ended the game with five runs in the bottom of the eighth.

S. Pennington provided a 2-for-4 hitting effort, and R. Pennington was 1-for-4 with two RBI.

Cade Buehnerkemper permitted six runs, four earned, over four innings to receive credit for the loss.

The Panthers (0-3) will return to action at home on Feb. 23 against Central at Robert E. Smith Field.
