Baseball nipped 6-5 by Loras

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The baseball team dropped their Friday afternoon contest against Loras when the Panthers stranded the tying and winning runs in scoring position in the ninth inning of their 6-5 loss.

The Panthers opened the game with a 1-0 lead after the first inning, and Loras tied it in the top of the third.

Greenville added a pair of runs in the bottom of the third, but the Duhawks caught up in the top of the fourth with two runs and added single tallies in the top of the fifth and sixth innings to establish a 5-3 advantage.

GU rallied for two runs in the bottom of the sixth to deadlock the score at 5-5, and Loras scored an unearned run in the top of the seventh that gave them their winning margin.

Jacob Sutton, Landon Mokris, and Trent Morgenstern all ended the game with two hits for the Panthers. Mokris posted two RBI, and Sutton and Morgenstern each scored a run. Morgenstern added an RBI.

Luke Fleener pitched six innings for the Panthers and gave up five runs, three earned, on eight hits and two walks. He struck out four.

Ty Kueper pitched the seventh inning and allowed an unearned run when a pop foul to third base was not corralled for an error and Loras eventually scored a run.

Joe Short and Jacob Hammer each delivered one scoreless inning of relief.

The Panthers (2-5) and Duhawks will complete their series on Saturday with a doubleheader at noon.
