Football handles Manchester in 49-22 victory

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The football team secured their second non-conference victory of the young season with a 49-22 win over Manchester on Saturday. Greenville scored at least one touchdown in every quarter, building a lead of as much as 33 points in the third and fourth quarters before giving up a late touchdown to settle for the 27 point win.

Delrey Crowder and Paul Garrett opened the scoring for GU with touchdowns in the first quarter.

Manchester cut the deficit to 14-6 with a TD early in the second quarter, but GU added two more touchdown runs from Garrett and one from Adrian Hinton to build a 35-6 lead.

Manchester added a field goal as the first half expired to make the score 35-9.

In the third quarter, Garrett added his fourth touchdown of the day.

While resting many starters in the fourth quarter, the Panthers Nick Sanford added a TD run, and the Panthers won by 27.

Greenville outgained Manchester in total yards 452-319.

Hinton finished with 85 yards on 17 carries, and Garrett posted 53 yards on 10 attempts.

Tight end Seth Logan broke out with four catches for 131 yards, including a long reception of 67 yards.

Peyton Bates ended 9-of-20 with 226 yards, one touchdown pass, and an interception.

Greenville's defense was paced by Lakari Benjamin with nine tackles. Jaden Apple-Gibbs, Dewayne Garrett, and Matthew Reese had tackles for a loss with Reese capturing a quarterback sack.

The Panthers (2-1) host Olivet (Mich.) on Saturday, September 24, at 1 p.m.
