Schomaker's Panthers give him record-breaking 50th win

SAINT BONIFACIUS, Minn. - When former Greenville head coach Max Bowman departed Greenville in 1993, he left with a total of 49 wins that represented the beginning of the Greenville football program. On Saturday, current Greenville head coach Robbie Schomaker's Panthers defeated Crown 48-6 to give Schomaker his 50th win and sole possession of the top slot on the Greenville football coaches wins list.

In 10 seasons as Panther head coach, Schomaker has coached two conference champion teams and was a three-time UMAC coach of the year. His 2021 team qualified for the NCAA Division III national playoffs, marking its first NCAA playoff berth and only the second national playoff appearance in school history.

The Panthers dominated their opposition in Saturday's win, establishing a 13-0 lead in the first quarter behind a pair of rushing touchdowns from Paul Garrett.

In the second quarter, the Panthers added three touchdown passes from Peyton Bates with Delrey Crowder, Kaiden Cervantes, and Jabree Berry as the recipients.

The Panthers gave up a fumble return for a touchdown in the third quarter, but the Panthers closed out the game with two TD's in the fourth quarter from Matthew Tiger and Dominic Esparza.

Greenville outgained Crown by a 405-209 margin in yards. The Panthers ran for 298 yards and passed for 107 yards.

Garrett and Adrian Hinton each surpassed the 100 rushing yard mark. Garrett had 122 yards on 17 carries, and Hinton posted 104 yards on 17 carries.

Bates completed 9-of-21 passes for 102 yards.

The Panther defense was led by Lakari Benjamin with six tackles, including one sack.

Mitchell Schaeffer, Jaden Apple-Gibbs, Matthew Binion, and Turjon McLaurin also had sacks. Thomas Linnear and Douglas Becker were both credited with 1.5 sacks.

Apple-Gibbs picked off two passes that he returned for 84 yards.

The Panthers (5-3) host Finlandia on Nov. 5. Senior day activities will begin at 11:40 a.m., and the kickoff will occur at Noon.
