Football receives 319 rushing yards from Paul Garrett in 43-25 win

MORRIS, Minn. - The football team capped the 2022 season with a four game winning streak after securing a 43-25 win at Minnesota Morris on Saturday. The Panthers finished the game with 411 rushing yards, 319 of which came from Paul Garrett's new career high in rushing yards in a game.

Greenville scored the first touchdown of the game on their opening possession, moving the ball 65 yards on nine plays in four and a half minutes. Peyton Bates ran across the goal line to complete a 10 yard touchdown, and the Panthers converted a two-point conversion.

UMM scored the next two TD's and led 13-8 after one quarter.

In the second quarter, Garrett broke loose on a 42 yard touchdown run, and the game went to halftime with Greenville on top 15-13.

The third quarter scoring was solely accomplished by the Panthers. Kaiden Cervantes caught a 41 yard touchdown pass from Bates, and Garrett ran for a one-yard touchdown.

Morris cut the deficit to to 30-25 early in the fourth quarter, but Garrett scored twice more - a 54 yard touchdown and a 10 yard touchdown - to seal the win.

Garrett ran the ball 34 times for 319 yards and four touchdowns.

Bates completed 11-of-20 passes for 128 yards, one touchdown, and one interception.

Cervantes was the leading receiver with 41 yards on his touchdown reception.

Greenville's defense was led by Turjon McLaurin with eight tackles, including one sack.

Mitchell Schaeffer and Gabriel Stravers combined for a sack, and Matthew Reese also added a sack.

Dewayne Garrett and Lakari Benjamin each had an interception.

The Panthers completed the season with a record of 7-3 (5-1 UMAC) and were second in the standings in their title defense.
