Men's basketball falls by two against MUW

GREENVILLE, Ill. - A driving layup from Shon Wright with one second left in the game lifted MUW to a 129-127 victory over the GU men's basketball team at H.J. Long Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.

The heartbreaking defeat came after the Panthers eliminated a five point MUW lead with 30 seconds to play.

In the final minute of the game, Keishun Thomas made a jumper to pull the score to 127-124, and after a foul, Milos Zeradjanin missed both free throws for the Owls.

Greenville rebounded and got the ball to leading scorer Adrian Alvarez who made a three-pointer to even the score with 11 seconds to play. On the last possession, MUW put the ball in the hands of Wright who drove to the bucket for a layup with just over one second to play for the win.

Alvarez finished as the GU top scorer with 27 points. Jarred Johnson added 22 points.

Starters Darius Scott, Thomas, and Carlos Crespo also produced double-digit scoring performances.

Scott had 15 points, Thomas ended with 12, and Crespo posted 11.

The Panthers (0-4) travel to Dominican in River Forest, Ill., for a game on Tuesday night.
