Men's basketball falls at home to Wisconsin-Whitewater

GREENVILLE, Ill. - A four-time NCAA Division III national champion Wisconsin-Whitewater men's basketball team visited H.J. Long Gymnasium for a game on Saturday and came out on a top with a 120-94 win over the Panthers.

The Panthers opened the game with a 13-10 lead in the first five minutes, but the Warhawks scored the next 14 points in route to a 59-36 halftime advantage.

The second period ended with the Panthers only trailing 65-54 in the half, but the Warhawks still managed a 34-point win.

Greenville's top scorer was Jarred Johnson with 20 points. He made 9-of-15 shots from the floor, including 1-of-4 three pointers and 1-of-2 free throws.

Keishun Thomas posted 14 points as a member of the second unit, and Kaidyn Johnson also reach double digits with a 10 point effort.

Overall, 15 of 17 players scored for GU.

Jarred Johnson was also the Panthers top rebounder with six in the game, and Brock Bailey managed to contribute five assists before accumulating his fifth foul and leaving the game.

The usual pressure from the Panthers resulted in 18 turnovers from UWW. Bailey, Kaidyn Johnson, and Joseph Craig each provided two steals.

Greenville ended with a 47.1 percent effort from the field (33-of-70), making 6-of-25 three-pointers as part of that effort. The Panthers converted 18-of-25 free throws to finish at a 72 percent clip.

The Panthers (1-9) will resume their season on New Year's Eve with a 1 p.m. matinee at home against Carthage.
