Men's basketball drops 132-106 non-conference game versus Carthage

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The men's basketball team hosted Carthage in their final non-conference contest of the 2022-23 season and were set back 132-106 in H.J. Long Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.

Keishun Thomas finished the game with a game-high 33 points for the Panthers. He converted 10-of-15 field goal attempts, including an 8-of-11 mark from three-point territory, and made 5-of-7 free throws.

Despite the 26 point loss, the Panthers stayed with the Firebirds in the first half, only trailing 58-52 at halftime.

The game was tied at 68-all with 16 minutes to play, but Carthage pulled ahead with nine straight points.

GU cut the deficit to three with a three-pointer by Donato Pakak with 13:20 to play, but that was the closest GU managed to get for the remainder of the game.

Adrian Alvarez and Jarred Johnson reached double figures for Greenville with 11 points. Johnson also led GU with four assists and two steals.

The Panthers (1-10) will begin SLIAC play on Wednesday with a game at Eureka at 7:30 p.m.
