Men's basketball honors seniors with SLIAC tournament clinching 117-88 win

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The men's basketball team dominated Saturday's game against Blackburn, winning by a 117-88 final score, and clinched a position in the SLIAC tournament that will begin Feb. 22.

Prior to Saturday's game, the program honored head coach George Barber on the occasion of his 300th career win and then recognized seniors Samuel Barber, Grant McCullough, Vangelis Dermisis, Jarred Johnson, and Keishun Thomas as part of senior day activities.

The seniors started the game, and the Beavers took the early lead over GU. But it didn't take long for GU to turn the tables and build at 59-44 halftime lead. During the second half, the Panthers led by as many as 34 points.

Thomas finished the game as Greenville's leading scorer with 24 points. Johnson added 21 points to the effort.

Carlos Crespo chipped in 19 points, and Adrian Alvarez contributed 16 points.

Darius Scott also reached double figures with 15 points, and Donato Pakak added 10 points.

Greenville outrebounded Blackburn 45-41 and had 20 offensive rebounds. Pakak collected eight rebounds for GU.

The Panthers had 23 assists in the game and were led by Joseph Craig with six and Thomas with five.

Johnson and Crespo each had three steals.

The Panthers (7-16, 6-6 SLIAC) go to Spalding for a game on Wednesday night before wrapping up the regular season at Fontbonne next Saturday.
