Men's basketball falls at Eureka in SLIAC tourney first round matchup

EUREKA, Ill. - The men's basketball season concluded on Wednesday night in the first round of the SLIAC tournament with an 89-71 loss to Eureka. The Panthers wrapped up their season with a record of 7-19.

Greenville had a five game SLIAC home winning streak during the season that pulled them into a tournament position after starting 1-14, and they went 6-4 in their last 10 SLIAC regular season games.

Eureka took control of the game in the first half, carrying a 49-20 lead into the halftime intermission. The Panthers bounced back and outscored the Red Devils 51-40 in the second half.

Jarred Johnson finished the game as Greenville's leading scorer with 18 points. He made 8-of-16 field goal attempts, including 1-of-3 three-pointers, and his only free throw. He was also the team leader with seven rebounds.

The Panther defensive effort resulted in 16 steals among Eureka's 23 turnovers, and Jamie Calmese led the team with three steals.

Keishun Thomas was GU's top assist man with three in the game.

Despite their final season record, the Panthers are still on top in the NCAA Division III scoring leaders with 101.3 points per game.
