WAUKESHA, Wis. - The men's basketball team opened their 2023-24 season with a 131-113 loss at Carroll on Wednesday night.

The Panthers led 60-57 at halftime, but the Pioneers took over the game in the second half and outscored GU 74-53.

Christian Bennett and Malik Johnson of GU's starting unit finished as the squad's leading scorers. Bennett tallied 22 points, and Johnson added 16 points.

Kiarie Patrick provided 15 points, and Ja'Rod Webb and Vincent Rodriguez each added 11 points.

Adrian Alvarez closed out the group of double-figure scorers with 10 points.

GU posted 13 assists in the game, and Rodriguez led the team with four assists. Rodriguez also paced Greenville in rebounds with seven.

The Panther defense gathered 18 steals and forced 27 turnovers. Patrick helped the Panthers with five steals.

The Panthers (0-1) will face Lakeland in H.J. Long Gymnasium on Friday at 7 p.m.
