Men's basketball downed by Spalding

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The men's basketball team dropped their SLIAC opener at home to Spalding by a 104-100 final score on Saturday afternoon. The Panthers trailed at halftime but stormed back in the second half to take the lead before falling by four points.

Spalding led 55-46 at halftime after closing the half by outscoring GU 22-6 over the final seven minutes of the period.

The Panthers worked the lead back to 77-70 with nine minutes to play, and the Golden Eagles finished the game with a 34-23 advantage over the last nine minutes.

Grimmett Glenn led the Panthers in scoring with 21 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the field and 5-of-9 three-pointers.

Kiarie Patrick posted 16 points, and Ja'Rod Webb added 13 points.

Christian Bennett finished with 11 points, and Malik Johnson scored 10 points.

Patrick ended the game with a team high seven rebounds, six steals, and two blocked shots.

Vincent Rodriguez passed out five assists.

The Panthers (4-4, 0-1 SLIAC) will go to Westminster on Wednesday for a game at 7:30 p.m.
