Men's gymnastics competes at WIndy City Invitational

CHICAGO, Ill. - The men's gymnastics team competed at the Windy City Invitational in Chicago on Saturday. The Panthers placed fourth of the five complete teams at the event, defeating one NCAA Division I institution, Northern Illinois, in their second meet of the young season.

Illinois won the meet with a total of 399.4000, and Michigan was second at the annual event with 396.050. Ohio State finished in the third place position, collecting 394.900 points.

GU posted an overall total score of 368.250, and Northern Illinois was fifth with a total of 314.950.

The Panthers posted their highest cumulative score in the vault, recording a total of 69.400. Ricky Mays was GU's leader in the vault with a score of 14.350.

GU earned 63.900 points in the still rings, receiving a score of 13.350 from Ryan Barela.

In the parallel bars, Greenville was led by Barela's score of 12.950 en route to a total score of 62.400 in the rotation.

The floor exercise ended as GU's fourth highest scoring event with a total of 59.700. Barela provided 13.000 points in his routine.

The Panthers ended with 58.750 points in the high bar. Koby Cantu gave GU a total score of 12.700 in the event.

Finally, Major Bain gave Greenville 12.550 points in their pommel score. The Panthers finished with 54.100 points in the pommel rotation.

The Panthers will return to action at the University of Illinois on Saturday, Jan. 21.
