CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The men's gymnastics team went to No. 3 ranked Illinois for a meet on Saturday and fell in a 395.350-368.350 decision. Ricky Mays finished third in the vault (14.250). Mays also competed as an all-around and earned 74.750 points for second place among the all-arounders.
The Panthers secured their highest score in the vault with a 69.100 team score. In addition to Mays' third place position in the vault, Major Bain was fourth with a score of 14.100.
Ryan Barela and Jacob Foster placed fourth and fifth in the still rings which was GU's second best event with a total of 61.100. Barela posted a score of 12.950, and Jacob Foster recorded a score of 12.900.
Zach Connelly finished fourth in the floor, posting a score of 12.700, and Foster tied for fourth in the parallel bars also with a total of 12.700.
Mays gave Greenville a score of 12.450 in the high bar which was good for fifth in the event, and he also had a fifth place score of 12.200 in the pommel.
The Panthers will next compete at either a virtual home meet on Feb. 4 in Greenville or at Simpson on Feb. 11.
