Men's gymnastics finishes as nation's top NCAA D-III squad at Simpson

INDIANOLA, Iowa - The men's gymnastics team displayed their best overall performance of the season in Sunday's 384.750-381.050-357.550 victory over Springfield and Simpson in a tri-meet at Simpson. The Panthers finished as the best squad at a meet that included the nation's only three NCAA Division III men's gymnastics teams.

Greenville took the top position in four of the six contested events.

Zach Connelly was tops in the floor exercise with a winning score of 13.500.

Ricky Mays took first in the pommel horse with a score of 12.950, and he was followed by teammates Koby Cantu's second place score of 12.850.

Elijah Cruz produced the top score in the still rings with a score of 12.950.

In the vault, Michael Avery finished on top with a score of 14.500, and his teammate Major Bain was third with a 14.350.

Cantu was GU's top finisher in the parallel bars with a mark of 14.500 and took third in the event.

Cantu and Jacob Foster were second and third, respectively, in the high bar. Cantu earned a score of 12.600, and Foster finished with 12.550.

Overall, the Panthers were the top overall team in five of the six events - floor exercise with 65.400 points, still rings with 63.100, vault with 70.300, and high bar with 62.000. GU tied Springfield at 62.100 in the pommel horse.

The Panthers were second in the parallel bars with 61.850.

Greenville will return to action at Nebraska on March 18.
