Men's gymnastics sets new program high score in meet versus Illinois

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The No. 9 men's gymnastics team scored another program record in the first ever home meet against Illinois with a 388.850 on Saturday.

The vault squad beat the program record again scoring a 71.7, and they are currently ranked third in the NCAA as a team in the event.

Michael Avery and Logan Watterson were Greenville's top performers in vault, tying for fourth place with scores of 14.550. 

Avery was also the highest-scoring Panther in the floor exercise. He had a mark of 13.450, placing him third. The Panthers collected 63.800 points as a team in this event.

GU put up 63.300 points in the pommel. Landon Benas placed fifth with a score of 13.400. 

The Panthers had two athletes tie for third place in the rings. Benas and Sergey Popov each added 13.100 points to the team's event score of 63.800. 

Greenville had another third-place tie in the parallel bars, scoring 63.750 points. Koby Cantu and Jaxon Clapper both posted a 13.300 in the bars. 

Mac Pollock ranked fourth in the horizontal bar. Pollock tacked on a 13.100 to GU's 62.500.

Greenville did not enter an athlete into the all-around competition. 

The Panthers will next compete at Simpson on Saturday, Feb. 3.
