Men's soccer drops 4-2 decision at Westminster

FULTON, Mo. - The men's soccer team matched up with Westminster in a contest filled with plenty of scoring, but the Panthers came up short in a 4-2 decision on Saturday.

The Blue Jays took the early edge in the match, scoring in the 18th minute.

It didn't take Greenville long to match Westminster's opening score, and the Panthers received a goal from Napoleon Urquidi, his first of the year, in the 28th minute of the match.

Just two minutes later, Westminster's Barrett Smith knocked in his first of two goals and added a penalty kick less than two minutes after that to put the Blue Jays up 3-1 at the intermission.

In the first minute of the second half, Westminster made it a 4-1 match.

The Panthers added a late goal from Juan Jaimes in the final minute of the match.

Overall, the Panthers outshot Westminster 17-9 with a domineering 13-2 shot advantage in the second half.

Greenville's goalkeeper Pedro Vebber only faced the six shots on goal in the entire match, and he had two saves, both of which occurred in the first 45 minutes.

GU also held a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Jared McPeek, Luis Partida, and Benn Jane all led Greenville with two shots.

The Panthers collected 10 shots on goal.

Greenville (3-4, 1-1 SLIAC) return home for a match on Monday against Washington-St. Louis at 7 p.m.
